FERNHILL ESTATE, MULGOA
Client :
Greater Sydney Parklands
Description:
The State Heritage Listed, Fernhill Estate, located in the Mulgoa Valley, was acquired by the NSW Government in 2018 to preserve and protect its heritage significance as one of the last remaining, intact Colonial Estates with buildings and landholdings dating back to the 1830s. Much of the landscaping still reflects the original intent of William Cox, that of a picturesque, park-like landscape created through the selective retention of native trees and selective clearing for critical views and vistas to and from the main house.
Arterra prepared a detailed inventory of the trees surrounding the mansion and in the publicly accessible areas of the grounds. Over 1200 trees were identified, assessed and catalogued. Priorities for risk mitigation works were established and a program developed for ongoing tree management works and succession planting to support the objectives of the Fernhill Estate, Conservation Management Plan.
