Description:
Arterra was engaged as lead consultant to deliver a design to upgrade this 100m of pedestrian mall running through the central retail and business district of Chatswood. It is a heavily used urban environment with multiple and often conflicting uses. Our aim was to create a vibrant and functional civic space to last well into the future. A new, decorative precast wall and seating system facilitated Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) initiatives and passive irrigation for the new, centrally located 'signature' trees. Best practice soil preparation and tree planting were employed below ground to help ensure the long-term success of the trees. Vibrant lighting, sculptural elements, flourishing trees and a fresh new street furniture palette have given this pedestrian plaza a new lease on life.
