Retford park is a picturesque and important historical house and garden developed from the late 1800’s onwards by the Hordern family. It was purchased in 1964 by the current owner, Mr James Fairfax. The landscape style surrounding the house could be described as “gardenesque” with many large and mature conifers and exotic deciduous trees in large lawn areas. The site also contains many planted and remnant native trees. Arterra was engaged to undertake site investigations and prepare a report and plans to guide the undertaking of additional tree planting to define and act as a buffer to the identified heritage curtilage. The proposed buffer tree planting needed to compliment and respect the current landscape character while also providing adequate and successful growth and screening to any proposed future development.
