This was a groundbreaking project for McDonald’s Australia. Located in the rapidly growing north west of Melbourne on a windy, harsh and high visibility site, the landscape of the new Delahey restaurant represents a massive shift in the environmental stance taken by McDonald’s in Australia. It is reflected in a landscape that includes water harvesting from car park areas to maximise infiltration and groundwater recharge, total use of drought tolerant native and exotic plants and trees, minimal maintenance plants requiring no pruning, state of the art water absorbent soil additives, no turf and an extensive use of decorative gravel surfaces. The design of the site was a logical development from the “Landscape Design Guidelines” prepared by Arterra for McDonald’s in 2004.
